Lady Gaga and the Muppets Fail to Bring in Ratings With Thanksgiving Special on ABC

 ABC

Talk about a ratings turkey.

Lady Gaga teamed up with the Muppets for an ABC special on Thanksgiving, which failed to reel in viewers on the holiday night. The 90-minute special, titled Lady Gaga & The Muppets Holiday Spectacular, only attracted 3.6 million viewers and a low 0.9 rating in the all-important adults 18-49 demo.

And while we would blame viewers just being too tired from all the turkey they consumed earlier in the night, the network's annual 8 p.m. repeat of A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving brought in 5.6 million viewers and 1.6 rating.

The low ratings for Gaga's special with the Muppets, which featured cameos from Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sir Elton John and Kristen Bell, are especially shocking when compared to the ratings for her other ABC special, A Very Gaga Thanksgiving, which aired two years ago; that special brought in 5.4 million viewers and 1.6 rating.

Still, the ARTPOP artist wasn't too focused on the ratings of her special, tweeting her gratitude for her beloved monsters (that's Gaga-speak for fans, by the way).

"Happy Thanksgiving little turkey+tofurkey monsters, I love you with am, my heart and thought all day about how grateful I am to be," she posted on Thursday.

During the special, Gaga posted a nice message about the Muppets' creator Jim Henson, who died in 1990, writing that he "has to be one of the most far out dudes of all time."

After the special was announced, Gaga expressed her excitement over celebrating the holidays with the fuzzy gang.

"I was so excited when ABC called me about doing a holiday special this year," Gaga said in a statement earlier this month. "I knew it just wouldn't be a complete night of laughter and memories without The Muppets! Can't wait to see the gang again and I hope Miss Piggy's still not mad about Kermit. We're just friends!"

Bachelor Producer Gets Into Awesome Note-Passing Battle With Passenger on Thanksgiving Flight

by Brandi Fowler Thu., Nov. 28, 2013 7:53 PM PST

Twitter

Bachelor producer Elan Gale was just trying to make it home for Thanksgiving…and then an epic note-passing battle ensued.

After a disgruntled passenger kept complaining to the US Airways staff about their delayed flight Thursday, Gale decided to send her over a glass of wine and a note once the flight had taken off.

The only problem was what the note said...

"Dear Lady in 7A, it has come to my attention that today is your "Thanksgiving!" It must be hard to not be with your family! Please accept this glass of wine. It is a gift from me to you. Hopefully if you drink it, you won't be able to use your mouth to talk! Love, Elan," he wrote.

The woman in 7A wasn't amused and sent this note back:

Twitter

"Dear ‘Elan,' The wine wasn't funny. The vodka wasn't funny. You're an awful person with no compassion. I'm sorry for your family that they should have to deal with you. –Diane"

What came next was a note-passing battle for the records, with Elan and Diane passing notes back and forth to each other throughout the flight.

Diane wrapped up their note swapping by telling Elan she would be "speaking to the authorities when we land."

Elan quipped back, "When you speak to the authorities, please make sure they arrest you for cannibalism because you just ate my d-ck! Love, elan."

But, their hilarious interaction, which Elan detailed on his Twitter feed, wasn't over yet.

NEWS: The Bachelor's premiere date revealed

"Well, ‘Diane' just slapped me," Elan tweeted once they landed. "When I got off the plane I waited for her at the gate. I was holding another note in my hand and I was going to give it to her. She walked right up to me and slapped me immediately in the face."

A gate agent asked if he wanted to talk to the police, but said he would like to give her one final note instead.

Here's what it said:

"Diane, allow me to introduce myself. I am TheYearOfElan...Look me up online. Read every tweet. Read every response. And maybe next time you'll be nice to people who are just trying to help. PS, Eat My D-ck. Love Elan."

Elan went on to talk about the whole debacle on his Tumblr page.

Talk about an eventful Thanksgiving.

Selena Gomez Performs During Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Halftime Show

by Brandi Fowler Thu., Nov. 28, 2013 4:05 PM PST

Selena Gomez Ronald Martinez/Getty Images

Selena Gomez returned to her home state to rock the Dallas Cowboys-Oakland Raiders halftime show.

The 21-year-old pop star, who hails from Grand Prairie, Texas, hit the stage at AT&T Stadium on Thanksgiving day rocking gold gladiator sandals and a Marina Toybina fringe and leather outfit (fringe leather skirt paired with a mesh and leather bodysuit), singing a medley of her latest hits.

She kicked off her performance with "Walk Like A Champion," shaking her hips around the stage with a group of dancers, before stripping down to red leather hot pants to croon her last song "Come & Get It."

The Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders also joined in for the performance, dancing around the stage as Gomez sang.

NEWS: Selena Gomez tells fans during concert: "The sexiest thing is class"

"Happy Thanksgiving!," she said, breathlessly, after finishing the show.

The singer's performance marked the beginning of the Salvation Army's 123rd annual Red Kettle Campaign, a holiday drive that provides toys, food and shelter for families in need.

"Proud to be performing for a great organization today during the @DallasCowboys game. Support @SalvationArmyUS," Gomez tweeted earlier Thursday, along with a link to her video for the charitable campaign.

After it was announced that Gomez would be performing at the halftime show, the Getaway star said, "I'm from Texas, so I'm a little nervous, I'm not going to lie. But I'm very honored and I hope that we come—me, my dancers and my band—and we give Texas a really good show and I make them proud."

What did you think of Selena's performance?

Kristen Stewart Steps Out With Her Dad After Thanksgiving

Kristen Stewart AKM-GSI

What better way to spend the holidays than with family?

Kristen Stewart did exactly that this Thanksgiving weekend, as the Twilight star was spotted with her father John Stewart outside of their family home in Los Angeles on Friday, Nov. 29.

Wearing her signature sunnies and the "Mercenaries" trucker hat she's so very fond of, the 23-year-old actress showed off her new arm tattoo, which she debuted earlier in the week while walking her dog.

PHOTO: Stewart flashes new tat and wears funky glasses while walking her dog

Back in August, Stewart sported a similar tattoo in the same spot while filming Sils Maria, in which she plays a personal assistant to an actress, and it seems like she committed to a more permanent version of body art on her inner right forearm.

Of course, this wouldn't be Stewart's first tattoo; Stewart got her first tattoo back in June in Nashville, Tenn. An insider at the tattoo parlor told E! News Stewart was "supersweet, real shy" when she came in with a group of five friends to get a small tattoo in her wrist.

Stewart's parents, whose divorce is still pending after her mother Jules Stewart filed in 2012, recently put their Alice in Wonderland-themed home on the market for $1.75 million. The home includes a portrait of the White Rabbit decorates one exterior wall, a painting of the Queen of Hearts and one of her knaves and a big chess set next to the pool.

A Fall of Shows: Here's What's Popping Up on Local Stages from September to Thanksgiving Day

Since this summer can't decide if it wants to be humid and infernally hot or downright chilly at times (Not fair! We don't get enough summer to have weather be this indecisive!), it may be time to move on and start thinking about autumn.

Of course, most theaters will be gearing up their 2013-14 seasons next month. And the theatrical/meteorological outlook for local stages is partly musical with scattered dramas, peeks of comedy, and a good chance of gore and kinky sex.

To help you plan you theater-going for the next three months, upcoming shows are arranged in handy-dandy categories:

Love (In Its Many Forms)

Straight:

Musicals don't come much more charming than She Loves Me (opens Sept. 20, Beck Center).  This Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick creation tells the story of two feuding clerks in a European parfumerie who find romance with pen pals—who turn out to be each other.

The touring musical Once (opens Nov. 12, PlayhouseSquare) won eight Tony awards in 2012, including Best Musical and Best Book. It's not one of those massive musical extravaganzas, since the cast doubles as the orchestra and the music is more of the guitar-strumming variety as a guy and a girl meet cute and explore their relationship.

If you like farce, not to mention bad boffing puns in the title, then the 1960's era Boeing, Boeing (opens Sept. 20, Lakeland Civic Theatre) may be just your ticket. A lothario is neck-deep in love affairs with three stewardesses. They're all engaged to him and then they all show up at once, but that probably won't be a problem.

The dark and sweetly neurotic comedy Nerve (opens Sept. 13, None Too Fragile Theatre) follows Elliot and Susan as their first date evolves into a nightmarish sort of romance.

Gay:

In Lilies, or the Revival of a Romantic Drama (opens October 11, Convergence-Continuum Theatre), a bishop is invited into a prison supposedly to hear a dying inmate's confession. Whoops—he is taken hostage instead, as a story unfolds involving gay sex and murder.

Bi:

Winning this year's award for the most direct title, Cock (opens Oct. 25, Dobama Theatre) involves a young man who, while taking some time off from his boyfriend, meets the girl of his dreams.

S&M:

Who's to say love (or at least lust) can't evolve out of a dominant-submissive relationship? In Venus in Fur by David Ives (opens Nov. 1, Cleveland Play House), a reversal of the 50 Shades trope shows a woman holding the whip hand.

Plies, Plucking and Piano

The PlayhouseSquare Broadway Series ventures into ballet with Sleeping Beauty (opens Oct. 1, PlayhouseSquare), a lavish new production developed by Matthew Bourne and his company, New Adventures.

At the other end of the musical spectrum is Woody Sez (opens Sept. 13, Cleveland Play House), a portrait of the iconic folk singer Woody Guthrie featuring 25 of his indelible tunes.

And in 33 Variations (opens Oct. 13, Beck Center), playwright Moises Kaufman examines the compulsions behind the creation of Beethoven's "Diabelli Variations," written for the piano, while also involving a contemporary musicologist and mother.

Deep Drama

A photojournalist and her romantic partner, a foreign correspondent, come back from the Middle East damaged physically and mentally, and find a hard time adjusting in Time Stands Still (opens Sept. 6, Dobama Theatre).

The guy with the hump is back in Shakespeare's Richard III (opens Sept. 27, Great Lakes Theater), killing youngsters and causing general mayhem before his long dirt nap under a parking lot.

Gory Musicals

If you prefer lots of spilled plasma with your melodies, check out The Texas Chainsaw Musical (opens Oct. 11, Blank Canvas Theatre). This is an encore production of the popular blood-apalooza that launched the company two years ago...

Many arteries are also opened in the Stephen Sondheim classic Sweeney Todd (opens Oct. 4, Great Lakes Theater), as the demon barber of Fleet Street gives out shaves that are just a tad too close.

Voices In Our Heads

Insomnia The Waking of Herselves is a return engagement of this devised piece (opens Oct. 10, Cleveland Public Theatre). In this riveting play, a woman tries to come to grips with other iterations of herself bouncing around in her "attic."

In Prelude to a Kiss (opens Nov. 21, Ensemble Theatre, a kiss leads to a transference of souls. But this sweet and sorrowful piece isn't exactly a Freaky Friday switcheroo, as penned by playwright Craig Lucas.

Cleveland Heights High grad and now acclaimed playwright Rajiv Joseph is the author of Animals Out Of Paper (opens Sept. 27, Ensemble Theatre). An origami artist is front and center as the show finds the balm that creativity can bestow on troubled minds.

That lineup will take you to Thanksgiving Day, when you can dive into the turkey and stuffing and get ready for the holiday show onslaught.

(Note: as of this writing, Karamu has not announced its 2013-14 schedule.)
